Description

The 2014 Bolgheri Rosso Le Serre Nuove is a lush and well measured red wine that does not shy back in terms of intensity. Neither does it overachieve in that department. This blend of 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 50% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot marches to a steady pace with good fruit definition followed by spice, leather and fresh tobacco leaf. The wine does flaunt its youth and charm. There is a touch of tannic tightness or sourness on the close that should relax within a year or two.

This wine boasts a deep ruby red color with purple highlights, revealing a generous aromatic profile of ripe red fruits. On the palate, it is smooth, rounded, and enveloping, yet full-bodied and substantial, showcasing a perfect balance between structure, fullness, and elegance. The nose starts off leathery and smoky, then turns herbaceous and salty, before finishing sweet with berries, plums, and roses. The palate runs with the sweetness, but salty and stony undertones provide balance, along with a kick of chili and cinnamon. Fierce tannins clash beautifully with a velvety texture. This wine is best enjoyed with grilled lamb chops, beef bavette with bordelaise sauce, venison medallions with red wine sauce, or roast leg of lamb.
