The 2014 Brunello di Montalcino Luce definitely holds its own. I was a little surprised to see that the Frescobaldi family opted to make this top-end Brunello in such a difficult vintage. Now that I have the sample before me I can clearly see the confidence required to make such a difficult choice. In fact, I'm not even sure I would get that this wine was from 2014 in a blind tasting. It delivers ripe and round fruit flavors of blackberry and plum, along with significant 15.5% alcohol and thick extraction that defies everything we know about 2014. There is a lot of power and grit at the core of this opulent Brunello. Some 25,000 bottles were made. WA 93

The 2014 Tenuta Luce Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is a testament to the elegance and power of Tuscany's prestigious Sangiovese grape. With an alcohol content of 15.5%, this wine is both bold and structured. It presents a ruby red color with purple highlights, unfolding aromas of underbrush, ripe plum, new leather, and exotic spices. The palate is greeted with a full-bodied experience, where assertive tannins frame flavors of dried black cherry, licorice, and espresso, culminating in a firm, drying finish. Decanting for two hours is recommended to allow the tannins to soften and the wine to express its full richness. This Brunello pairs exquisitely with grilled red meats, wild boar ragù, mature cheeses, and mushroom risotto.
