Description
The bottle of the 2015 Purple Angel looks like a magnum, but it's only big, like the wine it contains. This is a ripe, heady and generously oaked blend of Carmenere with 8% Petit Verdot that has abundant herbal and spicy aromas and flavors. It matured in brand new French barriques for 18 months. So you can imagine it's going to be quite oaky, and the texture shows some grainy tannins that are going to require some more time in bottle to get polished. It finishes dry, with some astringency. Very 1990s. Will it come into balance with bottle age? 180,000 bottles.

This 2015 Montes 'Purple Angel' is a bold and structured wine from the Colchagua Valley in Chile. It presents a deep purplish-red color and an elegant nose with outstanding aromas of ripe red and black berries, sweet spices, dark chocolate, and mocha. The palate is well structured with soft, ample tannins and a remarkable finish that is elegant and very much in accordance with the nose. This wine has been aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels, giving it a rich, oaky flavor. It is an ideal wine to enjoy now or in years to come.
