A classic Saint-Julien from one of the estate’s finest terroirs, this 1997 Grand Vin shows dense ruby colour and an elegant, cedary nose layered with black currant and ripe sweet cherry. The palate is concentrated and glycerol-rich, framed by polished, svelte tannins and a measured dose of new French oak that adds spice and cedar rather than domination. Acidity runs on the lower side, giving a plush, generous texture and immediate appeal while remaining refined. The wine was picked between 18 September and 4 October and matured in French oak; it carries the stamp of Clos Léoville Las Cases’ special soils and long-standing winemaking tradition. Serve gently decanted (about 45 minutes) to remove any sediment and allow aromatic lift. Pairs superbly with roasted or grilled red meats, herb-crusted lamb, rich French preparations such as boeuf en croûte, and mature hard cheeses.
Château Léoville-Las Cases is a Second Growth (2ème Grand Cru Classé) with long-held prestige in Saint-Julien. The Grand Vin is drawn from exceptional parcels of the former Léoville estate—principally the Clos Léoville Las Cases—covering nearly 60 hectares on the border of Saint-Julien and Pauillac. Under Domaines Delon ownership the estate emphasizes parcel selection, traditional cellaring and ageing in French oak. The 1997 harvest followed a warm early season, rain through summer and a fine September-October that allowed full ripening; maturation was completed in French oak barrels. The château’s style balances concentration and precision, with an underlying cedar and mineral signature from its classic Médoc terroir.
