Tasting note: Bright, fragrant and juicy — this Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese opens with lifted aromas of ripe peach, apricot and nectarine edged by orange blossom and light honeyed notes. Flinty slate minerality supports the fruit, while a racy acidity keeps the generous sweetness fresh. The medium-bodied palate is succulent and well-balanced, finishing clean and lingering with a saline, slightly stony thread. Producer & vineyard: From Markus Molitor’s celebrated Wehlener Sonnenuhr site — a steep, south-facing, slate-rich slope famed for intense ripeness and mineral clarity. The estate is family-run and renowned for meticulous vineyard work, low yields and selective late harvesting to concentrate flavours. Winemaking: Grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted at harvest. Gentle pressing and cool, controlled fermentation preserve aromatic intensity; fermentation is managed to retain harmonious residual sweetness while maintaining vibrant acidity. The result is an elegant, terroir-driven sweet Spätlese that balances ripeness with precision. Serve slightly chilled after ~30 minutes of breathing to allow perfume and mid-palate to open. Drink now through the next two decades for evolving honeyed and mineral layers.
