The 2020 Blank Canvas 'Escaroth' Pinot Noir is a captivating wine that showcases the unique terroir of the Escaroth vineyard in Marlborough. This wine offers a complex bouquet of red and blue fruits, intertwined with enchanting spice, game, and earthy notes. The low-yielding, dry-farmed vineyard has produced a wine of incredible concentration and intensity. Hand-harvested and fermented with natural yeasts, this Pinot Noir was aged in French oak barriques for 12 months, followed by 3 months in tank. The result is a savoury, structured wine with elegant tannins and a long, satisfying finish.

Blank Canvas Wines is owned by Matt Thomson and Sophie Parker-Thomson. The Escaroth vineyard is a unique north-facing, sloped, dry-farmed site in the middle of the Taylor Pass. Vines were planted in 2001, and it is rare in Marlborough as it is established without irrigation. The vineyard has the biggest diurnal range in all of Marlborough and is frequently drier than other sub-regions. The low-vigour old clay soils are perfect for Pinot Noir. The vineyard is spur-pruned and VSP trained.
