Tasting Note: Light-gold in the glass, Lagavulin’s 8-Year-Old for the 200th anniversary opens with fragrant, tea-scented smoke and maritime, nose-drying salinity. Hints of milk chocolate, lemon and faint red-berry preserve sit beneath a powerful smoky core. On the palate it’s light-bodied at first then pleasantly oily, sweet-leaning into charred, minty dark chocolate, salty oven-charred potato skins and a growing smoky pungency that finishes dry and fiery. A drop of water softens the edges and teases out more fruit and spice. Producer Notes: Released to mark Lagavulin’s bicentenary, this limited-edition bottling celebrates the distillery’s historic craft. Inspired by Alfred Barnard’s praise for an eight-year-old from the 1880s, it’s built to showcase the classic Lagavulin DNA—coastal peat smoke, sea salt and a distinctive dry finish—presented in an elegant commemorative box. Distilling & Maturation: Single malt distilled on Islay and matured in oak casks. The spirit carries seaside minerality and peat smoke from local peat-fired kilns; careful oak influence provides charred and chocolatey notes without over-sweetening. Bottled at c.43–48% ABV to retain aromatic lift while delivering warming intensity. Estate & Environment: Born of Islay’s wind-swept coast, the character comes from peaty soils, coastal air and traditional malting. The distillery’s long heritage—two centuries of hands-on production—shines through in the balance between smoke, salt and soft, rounded oak.

Lagavulin Distillery, established in 1816 and now part of Diageo, is one of Islay’s signature producers. Renowned for heavily peated single malts, the distillery combines traditional malting, peat-fired kilns and oak maturation by the sea to produce smoky, maritime whiskies that carry a distinctive dry, savory finish.
