Ripe, almost cooked fruit, with nuts, raisin and spices. Full-bodied, with a dense palate of ripe fruit and a leathery, spicy, dried berry character. So long and powerful. Chewy. This is big and very juicy, with loads of powerful fruit. A little alcoholic, even rustic, but I like it. WS 93

Tasting note

The 1989 Chateau Cheval Blanc is a testament to the art of winemaking in Saint-Emilion. This vintage exhibits a deep, slightly brick-hued color, unveiling a complex and concentrated bouquet that harmoniously blends blackcurrant, prune compote, and a touch of spice and pepper. As it opens, the nose reveals layers of undergrowth, leather, and the scents of Provencal herbs. On the palate, the wine is round and fresh, boasting a beautiful structure with substantial yet airy tannins. It is both elegant and opulent, offering fruity notes of blackberries, blackcurrants, and macerated cherries, complemented by an animalistic trace. The finish is remarkably complex and lengthy, with smoky nuances of Russian leather. Mature yet remarkably fresh, this vintage promises to maintain its peak for years to come.
