Description

Tasted at the property, the 2006 Château Pichon-Lalande has a voluminous bouquet with outgoing blackberry, cassis and violets scents, a touch of boysenberry jam tucked just underneath, although it does not quite have the delineation of the Lynch Bages. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. This feels very composed in the mouth, quite fresh with well-judged acidity, harmonious and tensile on the finish. This deserves a higher score than I awarded out of barrel and it continues to improve year by year. Tasted April 2016. Neal Martin

Tasting note

The 2006 Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is a testament to the grandeur of Pauillac. This wine exudes a deep, dark ruby-red hue, with a bouquet rich in cedar and cocoa butter, seamlessly entwining with dark fruits. On the palate, blackcurrant is the protagonist, encased in a theater of cedary tannins. A backbone of freshness supports the wine's intense, yet angular structure. The finish is commendable, though the fruit yearns to break free from the tannic embrace, hinting that patience will be rewarded. With a biodynamic certification, this wine is a product of meticulous gravity-flow winemaking and precision technology, ensuring that each sip reflects the exceptional terroir of the Médoc's gravelly soils.
