Description
A beautiful wine from Dany and Michel Rolland, this 2005 is surprisingly concentrated and powerful – more so than usual. Deep ruby/purple, with plenty of black cherry and cassis fruit, licorice and a touch of caramel, this wine is still full, youthful, and set for another 15-20 years of longevity. This is a beauty and one of their strongest efforts in the first decade of the 21st century. For a terroir considered well below Pomerol’s superstars, this wine is a major overachiever. WA 95

Tasting note
This 2005 vintage from Chateau Le Bon Pasteur is a full-bodied, round wine that is loaded with flavors of chocolate-covered plums, cherries, licorice, and truffle notes. It has a tannic spine that gives it a classic rather than hedonistic character. The wine is best enjoyed after a few more years in the bottle or after decanting for 2 hours. It is a product of the Pomerol appellation, which is known for its deep color, delicate bouquet, and a softness typical of Pomerol wines. The wine also has a generous, powerful side reminiscent of Saint-Emilion wines. This complexity is a result of the mosaic of identities of its 21 cadastered plots in the Pomerol appellation.
