Tasting Note: Bright citrus and confectionery top notes—sweet orange sherbet and creamy orange peel—open into a core of barley-sugar and tropical-fruit sweetness, then give way to warm roasted spices, peppercorn and root ginger. Smoke and smoked paprika linger alongside a polished oak backbone for a long, creamy finish. Producer Notes: Created by Ichiro Akuto of Chichibu (grandson of the Hanyu founder), this limited-edition bottle builds on the classic white-label Ichiro’s Malt & Grain. Marketed as a “World Blended Whisky,” it blends malt from Chichibu with grain whiskies from abroad. Winemaking / Distilling Notes: Components include Chichibu malt and imported grain whiskies, matured in oak casks to bring structure and vanilla-vanillin notes. Released as one of Chichibu’s early 2018 expressions, the blend balances youthful vibrancy with well-aged spice and oak influence. Vineyard / Field Notes: Rather than vineyards, the story is one of grain sourcing and place: Chichibu distillery, built in 2007 about 100 km northwest of Tokyo, benefits from marked seasonal variation that aids maturation. Grain profiles from multiple origins are selected to create a layered, global character. Serving Suggestion: Serve neat or with a splash of water; allow 10–20 minutes in the glass to open aromas. Best enjoyed with rich, smoky or slightly sweet-savory foods.
