A commanding cask-strength expression from Laphroaig, this 10-year-old release delivers the distillery’s signature coastal peat with little intervention. Dark tawny in the glass, the nose opens with intense peat smoke, smoked cedar and Manuka honey alongside pipe tobacco, waxy candle and shoe polish notes. On the palate it’s full-bodied and concentrated: burnt oak staves, barbecued marshmallow, toffee and Belgian caramel waffle weave through briny sea spray, iodine and a touch of white pepper. Matured in American ex-Bourbon barrels that were seasoned and charred, the spirit is lightly barrier-filtered so you taste it as intended—robust oak, vanilla cream, nutmeg and lingering maritime salinity. Best enjoyed with a few drops of water to open the aromatics, or given 10–15 minutes in the glass to relax.

Laphroaig Distillery, located on Islay’s south shore, is famed for unapologetically peaty single malts. Traditionally malted barley is smoked over local peat, and the spirit is matured in charred American oak ex-Bourbon barrels. Batch releases are minimally processed—this Cask Strength 10 Year is barrier-filtered only to remove small char particles so the spirit retains maximum texture and flavour.
