Tasting note
Tasting note: Chevalier de Lascombes 2014 opens with a plush, approachable bouquet — ripe black fruits, a dusting of spice and a cocoa-tinged oak that gives the nose immediate charm. On the palate it’s rounded and fleshy through the mid-palate, showing concentrated dark fruit and a tarry edge; tannins are present with a slightly gritty texture yet remain well integrated. The finish is fruity and straightforward, approachable now after a short airing. Producer notes: This second wine is selected from parcels not used for the Grand Vin and is crafted to deliver pleasure and accessibility while reflecting Lascombes’ house style. Winemaking notes: Fermented and matured in oak (noticeable but supportive), bottled with cork. Careful selection of lots yields a wine with polished fruit and restrained use of new oak to retain freshness. Vineyard notes: Sourced from the Margaux terroir — well-drained gravelly soils and vines benefiting from good exposure and maritime influence — the result is a wine with ripe concentration, elegant aromatics and structure. Serving: Decant for about 45 minutes to lift aromatics and soften tannin. Serve at 16–18°C. Pair with classic roasted or grilled red meats, lamb dishes and mature cheese.
