Tasting note

A refined Montrachet showing the complex evolution of a well-aged Grand Cru. On the nose, layers of lemon curd, baked apple, white flowers and toasted hazelnut lead into subtle beeswax, honey and a whisper of smoky vanilla oak. The palate is rich and creamy yet cut with fresh citrus and a stony, saline minerality that keeps the wine precise and alive. Texture is silk-like, with concentrated orchard fruit and tertiary notes of dried apricot and light spice emerging from age. Long, resonant finish with persistent mineral and citrus epidermal tension. Producer notes: Domaine Gagnard-Delagrange is a family domaine in Puligny-Montrachet known for meticulous, terroir-driven wines. Their Montrachet Grand Cru comes from a parcel with classic limestone-rich soils and ideal exposition, delivering both power and finesse. Winemaking notes: Gentle whole-bunch pressing, slow fermentation in French oak barrels with a portion of new oak to lend structure, followed by extended aging on fine lees with occasional bâtonnage to build texture. Bottled after careful selection and typically minimal filtration to preserve complexity. Vineyard notes: Grapes are hand-harvested from low-yielding vines planted on the famed Montrachet slope—deep calcareous marl and limestone, excellent drainage and a warm, well-exposed site. The 1999 vintage shows ripe fruit balanced by classic mineral backbone and well-integrated oak. Best enjoyed after a short open to breathe.
