Hennessy X.O. is the emblematic XO from the Maison Hennessy: a deep, powerful and layered cognac built from a large selection of eaux-de-vie. On the nose it offers candied and dried fruit — figs, raisin and candied orange — layered with toasted oak, vanilla and cocoa. The palate is voluptuous and warming: waves of dark chocolate, toffee and spice unfold alongside peppery, rancio notes and a persistent oak-derived vanilla. The texture is round and generous, with a long, echoing finish that highlights wood, spice and sweet-savoury nuances. Producer notes: Created in 1870 by Maurice Hennessy for his circle of friends, X.O. established a new style for cognac. The blend brings together eaux-de-vie aged across decades — often reported to range from around ten to many decades old — and is matured in oak barrels that contribute lively wood spice and vanilla while allowing a full, rounded expression to develop over time. Winemaking and vineyard notes: Hennessy assembles eaux-de-vie from multiple crus across the Cognac region, matured in Limousin oak casks and finished to achieve balance between power and softness. Distillation is traditionally carried out in copper pot stills with careful ageing management in the cellars, producing a spirit with both intensity and remarkable length.

Maison Hennessy, founded in the 18th century and now a leading name in Cognac production, created X.O. in 1870 to showcase a bolder, more complex style. The house blends hundreds of eaux-de-vie drawn from multiple crus and cellars; distillation is traditional (copper pot stills) and maturation is carried out in Limousin oak casks. Ownership is part of the LVMH/Diageo partnership, and the cellar masters maintain long-established blending and ageing practices to ensure consistency and depth.
