This 2023 from Valli’s Gibbston vineyards captures the cool-slope energy of Central Otago: bright red and dark berry aromas—cherry, black raspberry and tamarillo—are framed by floral hints and a thread of forest-floor complexity. On the palate it's medium-bodied, with lacy, precise acidity and powdery, satin tannins that carry spice notes of black pepper, cinnamon and nutmeg. Fermentation included a proportion of whole-bunch fruit and the wine spent just under a year in French oak (around a quarter new), which adds fine structure without overwhelming the fruit. Energetic and poised, it's approachable now with a short decant but also shaped for several years in the cellar.
