Tasting Note: The 2014 from Château La Fleur‑Pétrus shows a graceful Pomerol profile — perfumed and floral on the nose with layers of black raspberry, ripe strawberry and black cherry framed by licorice and dark chocolate undertones. A saline, mineral seam and subtle balsamic lift add complexity. Producer & Vineyard: One of Pomerol’s historic estates, La Fleur‑Pétrus sits on the plateau (33–38 m) where a mosaic of gravel and deep clay on iron‑rich subsoil defines each parcel. Gravel parcels bring finesse and lift; clay parcels deliver velvet, density and structure. The estate—part of the Moueix legacy—has long emphasised parcel selection to express terroir nuances. Winemaking & Ageing: Grapes are hand‑harvested with double sorting (manual and optical). Fermentation takes place in thermo‑regulated concrete and stainless steel vats with gentle, controlled maceration to preserve aromatic purity and polishes tannins. The wine was aged for 18 months in oak, producing a polished, layered texture. Palate: On the palate it is medium‑to‑full, with juicy acidity and fine, dusty tannins that feel silky rather than aggressive. The mid‑palate is generous yet precise, finishing long and mineral‑tinged. This is an elegant, ageworthy Pomerol built for both early pleasure (with an hour’s decant) and longer cellar development through the 2030s and beyond. Cellar & Serving: Drinking window 2020–2045. Decant for 60–90 minutes if opening now to show the perfume and soften early tertiary notes. Pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, grilled sirloin, venison and mushroom‑driven sauces.
