Tasting note
A commanding expression from Dominus’ estate vineyard, this 2012 shows deeply concentrated dark fruit layered with complex aromatic lift. Notes of crème de cassis and black cherry are joined by lavender, cedar, graphite and a spice box nuance. On the palate it is full-bodied and opulent yet finely tuned: energetic fruit layers, ripe grainy but polished tannins and balancing freshness lead to a long mineral‑laced, elegant finish. Producer notes emphasize purity of site, estate-bottled provenance and a wine that gains further complexity with time.
Winemaking is restrained and meticulous: thorough hand sorting, optical berry sorting, gentle pump-overs to extract aromas and colour, and hand racking barrel-to-barrel on a three‑month cycle. Barrel ageing included modest new oak influence (about 20%).
Vineyard and vintage: fruit is sourced exclusively from the Napanook estate, managed for concentration and clarity. The 2012 season offered even budbreak, steady warm summers without extreme heat, and a slow, homogenous ripening that yielded rich, expressive fruit. Production was limited and attentive—this is an estate wine that reflects site specificity and careful cellar handling.
