Tasting note: Vibrant and well-balanced, this 12-year-old single malt delivers waves of heathery peat smoke layered over sun-drenched Seville orange and rich fruitcake. Spiced notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves mingle with molten heather honey and a warm sherry-oak backbone. Producer notes: Crafted at Highland Park in Kirkwall since 1798, this release celebrates Orkney’s unique island character—sea air, wild heather and traditional floor-malting come together to create that distinctive ‘Viking’ harmony. Winemaking / maturation: Matured predominantly in European and American sherry-seasoned oak casks (a mix of sherry, French and American oak), the whisky gains dark-fruit richness, spicy oak lift and honeyed depth while retaining a heathery smoke profile. Vineyard / island notes: Though not a vineyard spirit, the island of Orkney is central to the whisky’s identity: cool maritime climate, peat from local soils, and island-grown barley traditions contribute aromas of brine, heather and smoke. Serve & enjoy: No formal decanting needed—allow 10–15 minutes in the glass to open up. Best enjoyed neat or with a splash of water to coax out the orange and spice notes. Pair with lightly smoked fish, grilled beef or a few pieces of dark chocolate for a delightful contrast.
