Tasting note: A classic Saint-Julien from a celebrated estate — aromas of ripe blackcurrant, cassis and black cherry unfold alongside violet florals, cedar, tobacco and dark chocolate. On the palate the wine is concentrated and layered: dense core fruit balanced by a fresh backbone, fine-grained yet present tannins and a polished viscosity that carries flavours of espresso, spice and subtle oak to a long, persistent finish. Producer notes: Classified 2ème Grand Cru Classé and owned by the Cuvelier family, this bottling marks a centennial milestone. The vineyard is dispersed over some 80 hectares in Saint-Julien with select blocks on gravelly sites that add classic structure and tension. Winemaking notes: Hand-harvested during mid-to-late September, the fruit underwent careful, plot-by-plot vinification with pre-fermentation cold macerations to preserve bright aromatics. Gentle extraction was employed to manage tannin development. The wine completed malolactic fermentation in barrel and was aged for 18 months exclusively in French oak chosen for subtle integration. Vineyard notes: Vine parcels are planted on varied soils — gravelly terraces over clay-sandy subsoils — and average vine age is around 38 years, contributing concentrated, mature fruit and structural depth. The result is a powerful, elegant wine built for aging but rewarding with decanting now.

The team—led by the estate oenologist and cellar master—favours careful plot-by-plot vinification and extended barrel ageing in French oak to achieve balance between fruit intensity and fine oak integration.
