1992 Chateau Meyney is a mature Saint-Estèphe with pronounced oak influence and savory, meaty character. On the nose you'll find cedar, tobacco and well-toasted oak overlaying notes of liquorice and dried prune. The palate delivers savory black fruits, a leathery, slightly smoky texture and moderate tannins; it shows good mid-palate depth but the finish is a touch lacking in fresh fruit concentration. Producer notes stress gentle vinification tailored to each vat to extract the best from the grapes, followed by 18 months aging in French oak barrels. Vineyard parcels sit on Medoc gravel with a blue clay subsoil, giving structure and a savory mineral underpinning. This bottle benefits from a short decant (about 45 minutes) to relax the oak and integrate tertiary aromas. Serve with grilled or roasted red meats, game or aged cheeses.
