This 21-year blended malt from John Walker & Sons is a refined, oak-driven whisky that balances orchard fruit sweetness with warming spice and a delicate thread of smoke. Aromas open with baked apple, fig roll and cocoa powder, then unfurl baked orange and vanilla from long oak maturation. The palate is rich and layered — cinnamon toffee leading into dried fruits and baked peach, finishing with nutmeg, clove and a restrained smoky note. Small-batch production and careful selection of older single malts give XR 21 a composed, elegant character and a long, spiced finish.
