Tasting note

Deep garnet-purple in the glass, this Saint-Emilion opens with expressive black raspberry, fresh blackberry and wild blueberry framed by floral lift and anise-sassafras spice. Minerality—crushed stone and a subtle ferrous thread—runs through a full-bodied, energetic palate. Fine-grained, ripe tannins and lively acidity give the wine poise and drive; oak ageing adds smoky spice and structure while preserving primary fruit. From a recent six-hectare acquisition by Jacques Thienpont close to some of Saint-Emilion’s great sites, the vineyard sits on plateau and slopes of clay-limestone with a limestone-rich subsoil. Harvests took place in mid-late September and the wines were aged 12–16 months in French oak (50% new). Ageworthy and vibrant, this bottling balances power with finesse and rewards cellar time.

Winery

Chateau L'If is a recent focus for Jacques Thienpont, who purchased six hectares in Saint-Emilion close to renowned neighbours. The project reconnects with the Thienpont family’s long Bordeaux history. Management is overseen by Cyrille Thienpont; winemaking favors careful ripeness, classic élevage in French oak and attention to terroir expression.
