Description
A beautiful effort from Monbousquet, this 2005 comes across to me as one of their strongest efforts, with notes of toasty oak, black cherry and blackcurrant fruit as well as some licorice, incense and flowers. Full-bodied and opulent, this is an amazing wine from a terroir on the so-called “wrong side” of St.-Emilion. Drink it over the next 15 or more years. It is an amazing performance. RP94, WS91

Tasting note
The 2005 Chateau Monbousquet is a captivating Saint-Emilion Grand Cru that showcases the elegance and complexity of Bordeaux wines. With an inviting bouquet of dark wild berries, nougat, and herbal notes, this wine reveals layers of red cherries, ripe plums, and a touch of candied orange zest on the palate. The finely integrated spicy tannins and a delicately chalky, mineral finish make it a wine with great ageing potential. Produced by Gerard Perse, the wine benefits from the diverse terroirs of the 32-hectare vineyard, which includes sandy, sandy-clay, and sandy-gravel soils. The winemaking process involves temperature-controlled stainless steel vats and ageing in new oak barrels for 18-24 months, with racking every 3 months. The final blend is done just before bottling, ensuring a refined and unfiltered wine.
