Tasting note

A classic Napa Valley expression from estate and grower sites across St. Helena, Oak Knoll, Stags Leap and Rutherford, plus fruit from the new El Venadito site. Aromas of violet, dark red and black fruits, tobacco leaf, and subtle baking spice lead into a concentrated, focused palate: expressive black cherry, blackberry and plum with hints of spice box and sweet vanilla bean from careful oak aging. The wine spent 18 months in oak (48% new; French and American oak) balancing ripe fruit intensity with freshness and supple, well-structured tannins. 2019’s cool-to-warm growing season produced very good phenolic ripeness and structure — approachable now after a short decant but with the backbone to develop in bottle.
