A concentrated, welcoming red from DAOU's Paso Robles program, the 2022 'Bodyguard' opens with toasted pecan, baked blackberry and a lift of cardamom spice. The palate is rich and layered — espresso-bean bitterness, black fruit and a peppery thread weave through generous, toasty French oak and plush tannins. Crafted under winemaker Daniel Daou and matured in French oak, this oaked bottling balances ripe fruit concentration with a savory, espresso-like complexity. The vineyards’ warm days and cooling nights deliver ripe phenolics and freshness that keep the wine vibrant despite its weight. Best decanted for about an hour to reveal savory mid-palate notes; pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted red meats and mature cheeses.
