Tasting Note: Deep, layered and plush—this Pomerol offers ripe dark cherry and plum at the core, edged by cocoa, sweet vanilla and fine oak spices. Earthy truffle and an iron-tinged minerality from the ‘crasse de fer’ underlayer add depth, while velvety, well-structured tannins carry an extended, resonant finish. Producer Notes: Created from selected gravel parcels on the northeastern section of the Trotanoy estate, Espérance de Trotanoy was launched to deliver a more approachable, fruit-forward expression that still reflects Trotanoy’s famed concentration and terroir. The property has been in the Jean-Pierre Moueix portfolio since 1953 and the Espérance cuvée emphasizes early charm without sacrificing complexity. Winemaking Notes: Grapes are hand-harvested with double sorting (manual and optical). Fermentation takes place in thermo-regulated concrete and stainless-steel vats with gentle, controlled maceration and extraction to preserve purity and texture. The wine is aged 16–18 months in French oak barrels (approximately 50% new), resulting in integrated spice and supple oak influence. Vineyard Notes: The vineyard sits on a well-exposed plateau sloping gently west. Soils range from gravel at higher elevations to heavier clay lower down, above an impermeable, iron-rich layer known locally as “crasse de fer.” This mosaic of gravel and clay lends power, density and a distinctive mineral frame to the wine. Serve: Decant for about an hour and pair with grilled ribeye, roast lamb or rich game.
