Tasting note
Ripe, powerful and beautifully balanced, this Saint-Julien from Château Lagrange (2018) opens with a deep, dark-purple robe and aromas of black cherry, cassis and fresh prune, lifted by violet and cedar spice. The palate is concentrated yet lively: dense, silky tannins frame succulent dark-fruit layers and a minerally, slightly saline thread. This vintage benefited from careful plot-by-plot vinification, hand-harvest and dual-stage sorting (whole-bunch then optical grape selection), followed by traditional fermentations at 26–28°C with moderate extraction and co-inoculated malolactic. Aged 21 months with 50% new oak and fined in barrel with fresh egg whites, the wine shows plush texture and a long, muscular finish. Approachable now with aeration, it will also cellar gracefully for decades.

Château Lagrange is a major Saint-Julien estate with 118 hectares of red vines planted on two hills within the village. Soils combine clay and limestone subsoils with pebble and gravel topsoils; the climate is temperate and oceanic. The estate works plot-by-plot, harvesting by hand and employing rigorous sorting and modern, temperature-controlled vinification, followed by extended barrel ageing (about 21 months, with significant new oak). Owned by Suntory, the domaine blends tradition with careful technological selection.
