Tasting note: Bright and immediate on the nose with vivid citrus (lime, grapefruit) and stone/soft fruit (peach, nectarine) wrapped around juicy gooseberry and a hint of elderflower. There is an herbaceous whisper of green bean and fresh grass, while the palate feels surprisingly generous — creamy in texture yet driven by lively acidity and a chalky, saline-tinged finish. Producer notes: This is the 40th consecutive vintage from a renowned Marlborough estate now under LVMH ownership. Fruit is drawn largely from Wairau Valley sites — Estate, Motukawa, Widow’s Block, Red Shed and Mustang — that produce expressive, free-draining fruit. Winemaking: After harvest the free-run juice was cold-settled, racked and inoculated with selected yeasts. Fermentation was carried out mainly in stainless steel to preserve freshness, with almost 5% fermented at warmer temperatures in large-format oak vats; a portion also underwent wild-yeast fermentation to add texture and complexity. The wine is unoaked overall and sealed under screwcap to retain aromatic lift. Vineyard notes: Vineyards on the Wairau Valley floor sit on gravelly, free-draining soils with a maritime-influenced climate that accentuates ripeness while keeping acidity bright. The result is a wine that balances immediate drinkability with enough structure for short-term cellaring. Serve lightly chilled; short decanting (around 15 minutes) will open up the aromas. Excellent with fresh goat cheeses, seafood starters and bright, herb-forward Asian dishes.
