Tasted blind at Farr’s 2002 Bordeaux tasting. A rather taciturn nose but there is obviously good fruit intensity coiled up inside, blackberry, graphite and a touch of iodine. The palate is full-bodied with a lot of dry extract, tannic, austere and rather stoic. Very “classic” in style, but certainly good breeding that will blossom in the future. Tasted October 2009. Tasting note

The 2001 Chateau Leoville Barton is a testament to the classic elegance of Saint-Julien wines. With an alcohol content of 12.5%, this wine strikes a harmonious balance between structure and flavor. Upon decanting for two hours, it reveals a bouquet of ripe red fruits, vanilla, and a delightful blend of cocoa butter and chocolate. The palate is graced with silky tannins and a fresh crispness that elevates the cassis and redcurrant notes. The presence of new oak is pronounced, yet it allows the fruit to shine through, culminating in a long, satisfying finish. With its liquorice undertones, this wine promises a favorable evolution. Ideal pairings include roast lamb, beef bourguignon, mushroom risotto, and aged cheeses.
