The 2019 M. Chapoutier Saint-Joseph 'Les Granits' is a remarkable wine that showcases the best of the Saint-Joseph appellation. With a very deep garnet red appearance, this wine offers a nose of black fruit jam, smoked and mineral overtones. On the palate, it reveals smoky and peppered aromas with tight tannins and a long persistency. The grapes are hand-harvested from the oldest Syrah trunks in the region, grown on very poor and stony granitic soils. The winemaking process involves 100% destemming and slow fermentation in small concrete vats, followed by aging in casks for 16 to 18 months. This wine pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, roast beef, mature cheeses, and wild game.
