Toasted oak and subtle dark chocolate emerge toward the finish, which is long, smooth and gently drying. Producer notes: From The Macallan's Double Cask series, this 18‑year-old is the result of marrying spirit matured in both American and European oak casks that were seasoned with sherry. The house’s strict cask selection and marriage process deliver a balance of soft American oak sweetness and the richer, spicier character of European oak. Winemaking / maturation: Distilled in traditional copper pot stills at The Macallan, the spirit spends a minimum of 18 years in a combination of first‑fill and refill sherry‑seasoned American and European oak casks. The ‘double cask’ approach emphasizes complementary oak influence — vanilla and honeyed notes from American oak with dried fruit, nutmeg and baking spice from European oak. Vineyard / origin notes: Hailing from Speyside, the whisky reflects the region’s classic water and barley heritage rather than vineyard specifics — think cool clear springs, locally sourced malted barley and generations of distilling craft.
