Tasting note
Tasting note: This 30‑year expression from Cragganmore's 'Authors’ Series' opens with a rich sherry-matured bouquet—dried figs, raisin and orange peel layered over dark chocolate, toffee and a warm spice rack. On the palate it is full-bodied and concentrated: plush dried fruit sweetness balanced by toasted oak, leather and a persistent warming alcohol backbone. The finish is long, gently drying with lingering spices and roasted nuts. Producer notes: Bottled at a robust 53% ABV, this cask (Refill Sherry Butt No. HL17400) reveals Cragganmore’s signature complexity after three decades in oak. Released as part of a curated 'First Editions' Authors’ Series, it celebrates careful selection and extended maturation. Winemaking/aging notes: Matured predominantly in refill sherry butt, the spirit has taken on tertiary sherry-driven characters rather than fresh cask sweetness—subtle oxidative notes, concentrated dried fruits and polished tannins from long-seasoned oak. Minimal intervention bottling preserves intensity and character. Vineyard/terroir notes: Hailing from the Strathspey valley, the distillery benefits from soft local water and a cool, stable climate that allows a slow spirit development. While not a vineyard-led product, the terroir—stone, peat-free floors and nearby springs—contributes to Cragganmore’s distinct malty, floral and layered profile. Service suggestion: Serve neat or with a few drops of water; allow to breathe in the glass for about 10–20 minutes to reveal the mid‑palate layers. Best enjoyed slowly to appreciate its evolving complexity.
