Tasting note: Rich and focused on both fruit and savory depth — aromas of blackberry, blueberry and blackcurrant are layered with black licorice, lavender and sage, while deeper notes of tar and medicinal spice add complexity. The palate is concentrated and plush, supported by firm, fine-grained tannins and a balanced acidity. Oak-driven spice and subtle vanilla from extended French oak ageing frame a long, refined finish. Producer notes: From the Michael Mondavi Family, this is a very small-lot signature wine reflecting Michael’s vision of Napa opulence with Bordeaux-like balance. Rob Mondavi Jr oversees the style while winemaker Sabrina Massola refines the blend to match the family’s palate and standards. Winemaking notes: Aged 21 months in French oak (65% new), the wine was built from hand-selected barrels; only 16 barrels were produced, emphasizing selection and concentration. Extended élevage contributes structure, spice and fine-grained tannins. Vineyard notes: Sourced from Napa Valley sites that contribute ripe dark-fruit intensity and classic regional richness. The climate and soils in these blocks lend structure and the ability to mature gracefully over time.
