Tasting note

A classic Pauillac from the 1855 classified growth of Château d’Armailhac, the 2011 bottling shows ripe, concentrated fruit framed by well-integrated oak. The nose opens with jammy redcurrant and stewed plum, then unfolds hints of leather, tobacco and toasted spice. Medium-bodied and finely tuned, the palate delivers persistent ripe fruit underpinned by firm, close-knit tannins and refreshing acidity; an 18-month élevage with 50% new barrels adds polished cedar and cocoa notes and a long, savory finish. The 2011 vintage—hot, early, then fine weather at harvest—produced a structured yet accessible wine that drinks well now but will continue to evolve over the next decade. Serve lightly decanted to reveal the aromatics.

Winery

Château d’Armailhac, long associated with Baron Philippe de Rothschild, is an 1855 Classified Growth located on gravelly plateaus in northern Pauillac. The estate combines historic parcels—some vines planted in the 19th century—with high-density plantings and careful rootstock selection to express a refined Médoc style.
