Tasting note: Deep ruby in the glass, this Paso Robles red opens with concentrated aromas of black cherry, cassis and baked dark berry, overlaid by toasted walnut, dark chocolate and a hint of wild mint. The palate is full-bodied and richly textured — blackberry and plum carry through with savory tobacco and warm spice. Well-integrated oak and polished, chalky tannins provide structure while a bright lift of acid keeps the wine lively. Producer notes: Crafted as an homage to a leading regional style, this bottling sources fruit from standout sites across Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo and down to Edna Valley. The fruit is farmed with meticulous attention by long-time grower partners — the very “neighbors” who inspire the project. Winemaking notes: Fermented and matured in French oak for approximately 18 months (roughly half new oak), the wine benefits from time in barrel to meld fruit and savory oak spice. Careful extraction yields ripe, polished tannins and a seamless texture without excessive weight. Vineyard notes: Fruit comes from a mix of hillside and valley sites selected for ripe phenolics and balanced acidity. Soils and microclimates across the sites contribute herbal and savory elements alongside concentrated dark fruit, producing a bold yet refined expression of the region.
