Description

The iconic 2012 Proprietary Red Opus One is a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot, 6% Merlot and 2% Malbec aged 18 months in French oak. A classy, complex, suave and savory 2012 Opus One, with notes of toasty oak and crème de cassis. This Pauillac lookalike, made by the staff at Mouton Rothschild, is a beauty. They have continued to strengthen the quality of wine and seem to have produced a brilliant, world-class wine. I imagine the 2013 may even eclipse this, but this 2012 is one of their great ones, with a seamless integration of acidity, tannin, alcohol and wood all present in this beautiful, full-bodied wine that should drink well for 25-30 years.

品飲筆記:2012 年份展現飽滿的黑色果實與層次感—入口有黑醋栗、黑莓與黑櫻桃的核心果味,並伴隨森林下層、石墨與煙草的細緻香氣。口感圓潤且有良好張力,絲綢般的單寧包覆著果味,活潑的酸度讓結構清晰,法國新桶帶來的烘烤與巧克力、茴香與咖啡香補足了鹹香與深度,收尾綿延。 酒莊與生產:Opus One 為 Rothschild 與 Mondavi 的經典聯手之作,致力於長期且穩定的高品質。園裡以數個精選園塊為核心,採行以手工採收為主的傳統方式,並在需要時導入經過驗證的現代技術。 葡萄園與釀造:果實來自位於 Oakville 西側的四個園塊(含 To Kalon 與環繞酒莊的 Ballestra 及 River 園區),採收期從 9 月 21 日至 10 月 20 日。發酵期約 18 天皮接觸,之後於全新法國橡木桶中熟成 18 個月。整體風格優雅且適合陳放。 飲用建議:年輕時醒酒 90–120 分鐘更能展現細膩口感;搭配紅肉、野味或熟成起司最合適。

Tasting Note: The 2012 Opus One shows concentrated dark-fruit aromas—crème de cassis, blackberry and black cherry—lifted by underbrush, graphite and subtle tobacco. On the palate it is full-bodied and layered: satiny tannins wrap ripe fruit while lively acidity keeps the structure taut. Toasty French oak and hints of milk chocolate, anise and coffee add savory complexity leading to a long, lingering finish. Producer & Winery Notes: Opus One is the realised collaboration between Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Robert Mondavi, a project devoted to uncompromising quality that guides each vintage. The estate focuses on precision viticulture in a handful of premium parcels and traditional, hand-harvested practices where they serve the wine best. Vineyard & Winemaking: Fruit comes from four estate parcels in the western Oakville area (including blocks within To Kalon and the Ballestra and River parcels). Harvest ran from 21 September to 20 October. Fermentation included approximately 18 days on the skins and the wine was aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels. The result is a refined, age-worthy wine with elegant structure and depth. Serving Suggestion: Decant for 90–120 minutes if drinking young. Best enjoyed with rich red meats, game or mature cheeses.
