Tasting Note: Rich, inviting and warmly spiced—this 14‑year Balvenie opens with creamy toffee, honeyed caramel and bright tropical fruit notes (pineapple, guava, orange peel). On the palate it’s rounded and smooth: vanilla and sweet oak lead into layers of rum-soaked dried fruit and cocoa, finishing soft and lingering with a gentle warming spice. Producer & Production Notes: Crafted by Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE, the spirit spends 14 years in traditional American oak/bourbon casks before being finished in carefully selected former Caribbean rum casks. The rum casks—previously filled with a bespoke blend of West Indian rums—impart extra sweetness, exotic fruit character and a hint of coconut and molasses that complement Balvenie’s signature honeyed profile. Distillery & Maturation: From The Balvenie distillery in Speyside, a house renowned for on-site traditional practices (including floor-malting and in-house coopering), this bottling highlights classic craftsmanship: marriage of bourbon-cask maturation with a rum-cask finish in American oak delivers extra richness and a rounded, dessert-like temperament. Best served neat or with a few drops of water; allow the whisky to rest in the glass for about 10–20 minutes to open up aromatics.
The Balvenie distillery, part of William Grant & Sons, is a family-rooted Speyside producer known for traditional, hands-on methods: floor malting, copper pot stills, on-site coopering and marrying casks. Their Malt Masters craft small-batch expressions that emphasize honeyed, malt-driven character, and the Caribbean Cask range showcases finishing in former rum casks to layer exotic sweetness onto classic Balvenie profile.
