Description
A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, this is a relatively big 2005 and somewhat larger than usual for Chasse-Spleen. The wine offers fairly high tannin but ripe, concentrated fruit. Dense, youthful ruby/garnet in color, with notes of cassis, saddle leather and spice, this wine could use another several years of cellaring and should keep 15+ years.

Tasting note
The 2005 Chateau Chasse-Spleen is a remarkable wine from the Moulis-en-Medoc appellation in Bordeaux. This vintage boasts a dense, youthful ruby/garnet color and a complex nose of cherry, blackcurrant, and mint, with subtle oaky notes. On the palate, it offers a lively attack with flavors of cherry and cocoa beans, smooth texture, and mellower tannins. The wine is well-balanced and powerful, with great persistence. It is vinified in stainless steel vats and concrete with a thermal regulation system, and aged for 12 to 16 months in barrels, 40% of which are new oak. The vineyard's soil consists of garonne gravel on a chalk substatum with asteria, contributing to the wine's unique character. This wine pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, beef stew, mature cheeses, and roasted duck.
