Tasting note

An archetypal Pauillac from one of Bordeaux’s most storied estates. The 2012 begins shy on the nose, gradually unfurling layers of blackcurrant, cassis and black cherry wrapped in cedar, tobacco and subtle violet florals. The palate is focused and densely textured — tight, compact and structured by fine, persistent tannins and French oak influence. This vintage reflects the difficult growing season: meticulous sorting and attentive vineyard work produced grapes that yielded an elegant, restrained wine with impressive length and a graphite-tinged, mineral finish. Winemaking included careful selection at harvest, traditional fermentation and maturation in French oak barrels that remain noticeable but well-integrated. Decant for roughly 90 minutes to let the aromatics open fully. Best with rich red meats, classic steak preparations or mature cheeses.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, owned by the Barons de Rothschild, is one of Bordeaux's most respected first-growth estates. The team under Charles Chevalier focuses on rigorous vineyard work, careful sorting and traditional cellar techniques. Vineyards on classic Pauillac gravel soils benefit from maritime influence and meticulous husbandry; maturation is typically in French oak that supports the wine’s structure and ageing potential.
