Description
This is an impressively endowed vin de garde that should age effortlessly for 20-30 years. How Anthony Barton continues to fashion uncompromisingly primordial Bordeaux that are always among the biggest and densest of all the St.-Juliens is beyond me, but he does it year in and year out. Moreover, when it’s time to set the price, he appears to have the consumer foremost in his mind. The 2004 is a classic Leoville-Barton meant for long aging. Concentrated, with loads of smoke, creme de cassis, forest floor, and earthy notes emerge from this impressive, but oh, so backward wine.

Tasting note
The 2004 Chateau Leoville Barton, a gem from Saint-Julien, is a testament to the elegance and finesse that Bordeaux wines can achieve. With an alcohol content of 13%, it is a well-structured wine that benefits from a 2-hour decanting to fully express its complex bouquet. The palate is graced with ripe dark fruits, juicy black cherries, and a vivid cedary oak presence. The tannins are both gripping and supple, contributing to the wine's opulent mid-palate and superb length. This wine is a perfect match for dishes like roast lamb or Beef Wellington, and it will also complement a mushroom risotto or aged hard cheeses beautifully.
