This 2003 vintage from Chateau Leoville Poyferre is a classic Bordeaux blend, offering a firm structure and fine acidity. The wine's deep, dark ruby-red color is not quite opaque, and the dark-fruit aromas on the nose are ripe but quite restrained. The palate reveals some ripe cassis character, but the tannins have bite and the fruit closes up on the mid-palate. The finish is of reasonable length. This wine is best enjoyed with beef, lamb, game, or poultry.
