The 1996 Chateau Sociando-Mallet is a full-bodied wine with a deep, dark color. Its complex bouquet is dominated by black fruit aromas, complemented by a touch of minerality and well-integrated, elegant oak. Initially somewhat 'virile' when young, this wine gains in balance and complexity with age. It is fresh, straightforward, and offers a wonderful length. The wine is vinified traditionally using native yeast and bacteria, with fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete vats. The wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels, resulting in a robust structure with firm tannins and a strong cedar, tobacco, green pepper, and cassis nose.
