Sommelier's Note: The 2005 Clos Fourtet opens with concentrated black fruit—blackberry and blueberry liqueur—layered with graphite, licorice and dark chocolate. On the palate it is full-bodied and concentrated but kept lively by a chalky minerality and cool acidity; tannins are firm yet polished after careful extraction and 18 months in oak. One hour of decanting smooths the edges and lets the saline, smoky finish sing. Winemaking & Vineyard: Hand-harvested into small baskets, whole-berry fermentation in small thermo-regulated vats with gentle 'pumping down' extraction, malolactic in barrel and adaptable oak ageing to respect vintage structure. The vineyard sits on Saint-Émilion’s limestone summit—superb drainage and a signature freshness.
