    Bitouzet-Prieur: A Legacy of Passion

    Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur, a venerable name in Burgundy, boasts a rich history spanning over two centuries. Rooted in Volnay, the Bitouzet family was among the first in the region to bottle their own wines. The modern era of the estate began with the union of Vincent Bitouzet and Annie Prieur, merging two distinguished Burgundian families and their prized vineyard holdings in both Volnay and Meursault. Today, the legacy is passionately carried forward by François Bitouzet, the sixth generation, who assumed management in 2012.

    The domaine meticulously tends to 12 hectares of vineyards, with approximately eight hectares dedicated to Pinot Noir and four to Chardonnay. Their philosophy centers on organic viticulture, shunning pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, and embracing manual harvesting. In the cellar, traditional Burgundian vinification methods are employed, utilizing indigenous yeasts. The white wines undergo fermentation and aging in barrel, with a modest 20% new oak, and are bottled after 15 to 18 months. The red wines experience a brief cold maceration, are 100% destemmed, and undergo a two-week cuvaison with twice-daily pigeage. They are aged in barrel, with some seeing around 10% new oak, and are bottled after 20 to 24 months. This dedication to tradition and terroir results in wines of classic style, impeccable structure, delicate finesse, and remarkable aging potential, truly expressing the purity of fruit from their esteemed Volnay and Meursault vineyards.
