The 2017 M. Chapoutier Saint-Joseph 'Les Granits' is a testament to the art of winemaking. With a very deep garnet red appearance, this wine offers a nose of black fruit jam, smoked nuances, and mineral overtones. On the palate, smoky and peppered aromas dominate, supported by tight tannins that promise a long persistency in the mouth. Crafted from the oldest Syrah trunks in the Saint Joseph appellation, this wine is born from very poor and stony granitic soils, hand-harvested at peak maturity. The winemaking process is meticulous, with slow fermentation in small concrete vats and a long fermentation period to polymerize tannins. Aged entirely in casks for 16 to 18 months, this wine is a bold and structured delight, perfect for pairing with grilled red meats, game dishes, mature cheeses, or hearty stews.
