This 2017 M. Chapoutier Saint-Joseph 'Les Granits' is a bold and structured red wine, with a very deep garnet red appearance. The nose is filled with black fruit jam, smoked and mineral overtones. On the palate, you can expect smoky and peppered aromas, accompanied by tight tannins that provide a long persistency in the mouth. This wine is produced from the oldest Syrah trunks in the birthplace of the Saint Joseph appellation, grown in very poor and very stony granitic soils. The grapes are hand-harvested at a very good maturity and 100% destemmed. The fermentation process is slow and lasts for more than one month, to polymerize tannins. The wine is then aged in casks for 16 to 18 months.
