Domaine de Baron'Arques has a history that stretches back to the 17th century, originally known as Domaine de Lambert and owned by the Saint-Polycarpe Abbey, located in a village near Limoux in the Aude department of France. After several changes in ownership, in 1875, it was purchased by Michel Tisseyre, who focused on expanding the vineyards to 48 hectares by 1910. Between 1890 and 1900, the Tisseyre family also built a charming residence with terraces and gardens on the property.
In 1998, the estate was sold to Baroness Philippine de Rothschild and her two sons by the inheritor, a lawyer from Marseille named Monsieur Chéreau. The Rothschild family entrusted the management of the estate to the family enterprise, Baron Philippe de Rothschild S.A., and spent five years renovating and modernizing the property.
In 2003, Domaine de Baron'Arques celebrated a double success: they produced excellent quality wine, and the estate was awarded the newly created Limoux red wine AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) by the French Institute of Origin and Quality (INAO). Since then, Domaine de Baron'Arques stands proudly among the family's other estates, including the flagship Château Mouton Rothschild.
In 2014, Camille Sereys de Rothschild joined her brothers Philippe Sereys de Rothschild and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild as co-owners of the estate.
Domaine de Baron'Arques is located in the town of Saint-Polycarpe in the Languedoc region, near Limoux. The estate spans 110 hectares, with 43 hectares under vine, benefitting from the climatic influences of the Atlantic and Mediterranean, with ample sunshine and appropriate rainfall. The vineyards are near the Pyrenees mountains, with altitudes ranging from 250 to 350 meters, and the soil is predominantly limestone clay, ideal for viticulture.
The Rothschild family is a multi-industry dynasty, including finance and winemaking. They own several renowned wineries around the world, including Château Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux. Their passion and expertise in wine have secured a significant place in the global wine industry.
Domaine de Baron'Arques' wines have received multiple international awards, with the 2006 vintage winning Gold at the Berlin Wine Trophy, and the 2004 vintage receiving a 3-star coup de cœur rating from the Guide Hachette des Vins. This is one of the most awarded wines from Limoux and has become increasingly popular in the Languedoc-Roussillon region over recent years.
