Tasting note
Tasting note: Matured and classically styled, this 1993 from Saint-Estephe shows a pronounced oak presence on the nose with notes of liquorice and dried prune. The palate delivers savory black fruits, meaty, almost Rhône-like savouriness and a firm mid-palate, though the finish can feel a touch short on pure fruit concentration.
Producer & winemaking: Chateau Meyney practices gentle vinification, treating each vat individually to coax the best expression. The wine was aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, which contributes to the toasty, cedary oak signature evident on the nose and palate.
Vineyard: Vineyards sit on classic Médoc terroir — gravelly soils with a basement of blue clay that brings structure and a mineral thread to the wine. The site’s maritime influence and stony ground underpin the wine’s savory, slightly austere character.
Serving: An older bottling that benefits from careful decanting (45–60 minutes) to clear any sediment and to allow the flavors to open. Best matched with robust red meats and aged cheeses. Ownership: Groupe Crédit Agricole; closure: cork.
