This 2017 Coudoulet de Beaucastel from Château de Beaucastel presents a deep, dark robe and an inviting nose of red fruits — raspberries and wild strawberries — layered with Provençal garrigue and warm spice. On the palate it is powerful and full, yet retains notable finesse: velvety tannins cushion concentrated fruit, while subtle oak influence from six months in oak foudres adds structure without masking the terroir. The Molasse seabed and rolled pebbles in the vineyards, geologically akin to neighbouring Châteauneuf-du-Pape, impart a distinctive mineral frame. The 2017 vintage was exceptionally dry with low yields, producing ripe, concentrated grapes and wines with excellent aging potential. Drink now after a good decant to open aromatics, or cellar through the peak drinking window to 2030 for additional complexity.

Château de Beaucastel, managed by Famille Perrin, is one of the Rhône Valley’s most respected estates. Known for traditional, terroir-driven winemaking and restrained intervention in the vineyard, the estate blends careful ageing in large oak foudres with respect for soil expression. The Coudoulet cuvée sits on molasse seabed and rolled pebbles, close in character to Châteauneuf‑du‑Pape terroirs.
