Tasting note: Deep ruby with a dense core of black plum and blackberry, lifted by black pepper, dark chocolate and cedar spice. The palate is concentrated and plush — layers of ripe dark fruit, mocha and vanilla from careful oak ageing, supported by rounded but present tannins and a long, cocoa-tinged finish. Producer notes: Crafted by Two Hands Wines under winemaker Ben Perkins, Sophie's Garden is sourced from Padthaway parcels managed by vineyard manager Travis Coombe. The bottle reflects the house focus on site expression and ripe, textural reds. Winemaking notes: Grapes are hand-sorted and vinified with attention to extraction to achieve ripe tannin structure without harshness. Matured in a mix of new and seasoned oak for balanced spice and vanilla notes; time in barrel lends mocha and cedary complexity while preserving vibrant dark-fruit character. Vineyard notes: The fruit comes from Padthaway’s warm, open plains where well-draining soils and cool nights help retain acidity beneath generous ripeness. Yields are controlled and parcels are picked for optimal phenolic maturity to produce a richly textured, age-worthy wine. Serving suggestion: Decant for about an hour to open aromatics; pairs beautifully with roasted or grilled red meats and mature cheeses.
